Good day folks, how are y'all doing? Am sure some of you must have seen the fashion stylist I brought today on many social media pages or you might have seen her on this platform too because I featured her in the Fashion Corner section a while back. The beautiful Nigerian-American is the CEO of Kaft Couture (rings a bell?) and she is a fashion forward stylist with many awards to her name in the United States and beyond. Bunmi Ojo-Adenugba (BOA) has carve a niche for herself in the fashion industry and she is a role model to many young fashionistas. The fabulous wife and mother of four took Mercyflawless Media on a jolly ride into her world as she opened up on her background, her design, and how she came into the fashion industry. Today June 25, is also her birthday, please say a word of prayer to her and wish her happy birthday. Read excerpt from our chat below and after the cut...
Could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Olubunmi Adenugba. I am from Ile Ife Osun State, Nigeria. I relocated to United States of America when I was 16 years of age with my siblings and parents.
I have always had the affinity for fashion at a very tender age. At a tender age of 8 years from what I can recall, I would change my clothes several times and admire myself in the mirror while modeling the clothes in the presence of my family to see their reactions. I decided to delve into fashion full time about ten years ago when I got tired of the 9 to 5 job and wanted to engage myself in something I was passionate about. And it's been history ever since then.
Would you consider yourself a fashion consultant?
I would consider myself open to anything that is fashion related. I'm open to new things and always willing to explore and learn new things.
But to answer your question directly, I'm more of a fashion stylist and I consult occasionally when the need calls for it.
What does it take to be a fashion forward stylist?
I honestly believe fashion is innate and the desire to want to learn and develop your sense of fashion into something that will be able to resonate poise, beauty and excellence.
Who and who do you cater to in terms of designing?
I cater to everyone that appreciate excellence in fashion. My world of fashion is for all ages, size, gender and what have you. We do not discriminate when it comes to who we cater to but we welcome everyone to our fashion domain.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion means everything to me. I wake, sleep and breathe fashion literally. It's something I have great passion for and would not mind spending hours just to get a design right. The beauty of fashion when I think of it, is the smile it brings to people's faces when they see the transformation it can bring to their lives. They always say, 80 percent of feeling good is looking good. The smile I bring to people's faces is what motivate me and it's also the driving force behind my love for fashion.
Your role model(s)?
My parents have always been my role model because they always find ways to make us smile even when the world is weighing heavily on them. They've always kept a positive outlook about life and that has affected me a lot.
How is it like, combining motherhood with being a wife and a designer?
I never for once thought I would be in this position where I would be playing multiple roles simultaneously. To be honest, sometimes I find it overwhelming but when I think of the positives behind what I'm doing, I'm always certain that it outweighs the odds.
I feel blessed being in this position and would never want to trade places for anything.
Happy birthday BOA. May your birthday bring more smiles to your face, happiness to your heart and more blessings to you. Amen.
