UI Shut Down, Students To Vacate By 6pm Today


The Vice Chancellor, University of University, UI, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka today ordered all the undergraduate students of the institution to vacate the institution before 6pm today.

Olayinka who responded to the protest staged by the undergraduate students today said, “all the undergraduate students should leave halls of residence on or before 6pm today.

He also postponed the first semester examination slated to start tomorrow to Monday July 17, 2017.

He said that the order did not affect the academic programmes of the post graduates.

He said their lectures and other academic activities continue.

The university authority had earlier appealed to the students to shelve their planned demonstration in the interest of peace, but the students went ahead and staged a protest.

This morning, there was heavy military presence at the university entrance to forestall breakdown of law and order. An armoured tank was also stationed nearby.
