A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has called on the Federal Government to properly investigate the murder of over 100 persons in Plateau State.
The former President made the call on Wednesday when he paid a condolence visit to Plateau State and met with Governor Simon Lalong.
Saturday’s attacks and killings in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state have been widely criticized with many calling on the Federal Government to take decisive action to arrest the attackers and end killings across the nation.
For Obasanjo, it is important to understand the immediate causes of the attacks in order to prevent further attacks and killings.
“We should find out the true cause of this. There must be a cause or causes – remote and immediate. If we are going to deal with it and we are not going to continue to multiply condolence visits by condolence visits, we must find out the root cause and deal with it,” the former President said.
“I believe that every human problem must have a human solution. This is a human problem.”
In investigating the killings, the former President expects the Federal Government to work with the state government, local government and community leaders.
Governor Simon Lalong, on his part, described the attacks and killings as very unfortunate.
This, he said, is because “if there is peace in Plateau State, everybody will be very happy. But the moment the peace is threatened in Plateau, many other places will be threatened”.
The governor, however, believes the right steps have been taken to maintain law and order in the state.
“We have done our best within this short period; we have learned our lessons and we are doing our best to maintain the peace. Like you said, we need peace not only in Plateau but all over the country,” he said.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the destruction of a shrine located under the Opebi link bridge allegedly belonging to members of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC).
Edgal, who led detectives to the shrine yesterday said the operators carry out trial on their victims and declare judgment against them. According to him, going by the items found in the shrine, some of the victims were tortured to force them to own up to a particular crime they are being tried for.
He said three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in activities around the shrine, while three POS machines allegedly being used to extort money from victims were recovered. Aside the three POS machines, other items found at the shrine included mobile telephones and ATM cards belonging to some victims.
Addressing newsmen at the scene, Edgal said some officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Security and Safety Corp (LSNSC) had informed the command of the suspicious movement of people in and out of the shrine.
He said based on the strength of the information, he directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ikeja division to investigate the matter.
“Based on the directive, a team of undercover policemen led by the DPO mounted surveillance around the area. Yesterday (Monday) officials of the Neighbourhood Security Safety Corps saw a man who was being dragged into the shrine.
They were attracted to the place by the screaming, which they heard coming from the victim. They quickly informed the DPO who moved his men to the scene where three persons were arrested and the victim rescued.
“In as much as we believe in community policing and community partnership, let me sound a note of warning to any group of persons who may want to take laws into their hands that the command will deal decisively with members of such groups.
“Members of OPC have been helpful to the command in the past. We see them as partners, but as you can see, some group of persons under the guise of OPC have erected an office under the Opebi link bridge where they take people to try them by ordeal.
They also have a shrine here where I believe they force victims to take oath. We will not tolerate this in any part of the state.
“Three persons have been arrested. One of the victims was freed. We are investigating and all those behind this barbaric act will soon be rounded up. When they are arrested they will be made to face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Some auto technicians who operate under the Opebi link bridge said the operators arrest and tortured their victims openly.
The mechanics who do not wish to be named said the operators open up case files for complainants after which the persons being accused is dragged before the shrine.
According to them, victims are adjudged guilty even before trial begins and confessions are forced during torture.
The Lagos police boss added that those arrested are being questioned at the command’s headquarters and that at the end of investigation, the command would be able to unravel the activities that went on around the area.
He queried the rationale behind the move by the suspected OPC members saying that nobody or group of persons is allowed by law to detain a person.
“As a law abiding citizen, you are only allowed to arrest and after which the suspect is handed over to the police who have the constitutional responsibility to investigate and after which charge the suspect to court.
“What is POS machine doing inside their office. Investigation has revealed that some robbers go about with POS machine. They make their victims transfer money into their account at gunpoint.
We are going to be thorough in our investigation. We won’t allow any miscreant to run amok in Lagos. I have also ordered that the shrine and the office be demolished,” he added.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to start the process of probing former President Olusegun Obasanjo to account for how over $16 billion was expended in the power sector when he was at the helm.
Oshiomhole, who spoke yesterday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Abuja when he assumed office as the national chairman of the party, urged Buhari to exhibit the courage to probe Obasanjo as he did by putting to rest the controversy surrounding the June 12 presidential poll widely acclaimed to have been won by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.
The former Edo State governor, who stated that Obasanjo’s self-righteousness claim was questionable, enjoined party faithful and Nigerians to support Buhari in his quest to rid the country of corrupt practices.
Besides, he faulted the former president’s claim of threat to his life in the hands of agents of the state, urging Buhari to unravel the mystery surrounding the cold blooded murder of former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige and Chief Harry Marshall believed to be politically-motivated when Obasanjo was at the helm between 1999 and 2007.
Also, while paying glowing tributes to Odigie-Oyegun, he faulted the notions in certain quarters that the APC was on the verge of changing its “change” slogan.
He said under his watch, the APC change slogan would not only remain, but also be deepened and sustained to ensure implementation of the party’s manifestos.
According to him: “The man said they want to kill him. No! To kill is to prevent the investigation. He must be alive to account. That is a typical distraction, so, I think all of us should be ready to do anything we can to help Nigerians not to forget in a hurry those who thought they could destroy the fabric of our growth system and render apology later.

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has insisted he “cannot give up” his dreams of winning the World Cup for Argentina as they face Nigeria in a decisive World Cup Group D clash on Tuesday.
Messi’s dreams of World cup glory are fading off after his country was held to a 1 – 1 draw against Iceland and humiliated in a 3-0 defeat against Croatia.
The lost against Croatia is La Albiceleste’s biggest defeat in the group stages of the World Cup since 1958.
Argentina need a victory to be sure of progressing to the next phase of the competition. But a draw is sufficient for the Super Eagles who beat Iceland, a team that held Argentina to a 1-1 draw, 2-0 on Friday.
Messi, who turned 31 on Sunday, said the competition meant much to him and his country after a career in which he has won absolutely everything else.
“It means so much because for Argentina the World Cup is special – and for me too. I’ve always had the dream of watching me raise the World Cup. And then seeing the emotion that goes with it,” he told Mirror UK.
“My hair stands on end just thinking about that moment. It would make millions of Argentine’s in the world happy. So we cannot give up on that dream.
“I have won all the most important tournaments but I am ambitious to the end. I would not like to retire from active football without being a world champion with my country.”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday decried how desperate politicians have increasingly cheapened human life in their quest to establish a reign of instability and chaos in the country for political gains.
President Buhari, who was reacting to recent clashes in Plateau, which left scores dead, said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, that those behind the killings hoped that it would give them an advantage in the coming elections.
He said: “We know that a number of geographical and economic factors are contributing to the longstanding herdsmen/farmers clashes.
“But we also know that politicians are taking advantage of the situation. This is incredibly unfortunate.
“Nigerians affected by the herdsmen/ farmer clashes must always allow the due process of the law to take its course rather than taking matters into their own hands.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidency quoted security information which indicated that about one hundred cattle were rustled by a community in Plateau State, and some herdsmen were killed in the process.
The report also revealed that the state governor, Simon Lalong, had invited the aggrieved groups and pleaded against further action while the law enforcement agents looked into the matter.
Less than 24 hours later, violence broke out.
It further stated that some local thugs then took advantage of the situation, turning it into an opportunity to extort the public, and to attack people from rival political parties.
“There were reports of vehicles being stopped along the roads in the state, with people being dragged out of their cars and attacked if they stated that they supported certain politicians or political party.
“On his way back to Jos after attending the All Progressives Congress (APC) Convention in Abuja, the state governor had to dismantle a number of illegal road blocks set up by these thugs. There were also a number of dead bodies thugs had killed, lying along the road,’’ the report added.
The Police Command in Plateau had on Sunday confirmed the killing of 86 people in attacks on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The command had earlier said that only 11 persons were killed.
ASP Terna Tyopev, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) confirmed the new figure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Jos.
The Plateau Government had since announced a dusk to dawn curfew in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South local government areas to check further breakdown of law and order in the state.(NAN)
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dissolution of the Governing Board of National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB).
A statement, made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday by Mr Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, said the approval was with immediate effect.
Echono said the President had also directed the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu to take immediate measures to reposition and refocus NABTEB for greater efficiency and to render its performance more responsive to the expectations of the present administration.
He said the purported suspension of the Registrar, Prof. Ifeoma Abanihe and four other Directors of NABTEB had been nullified as it did not conform to due process, especially in the case of the registrar.
He said the board went beyond its powers and in contravention of Section 5 and Section 6 of NABTEB Act.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a special investigative panel was constituted to probe activities of the registrar of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Prof. Ifeoma Isuigo-Abanihe and four others.
The panel allegedly uncovered irregularities in contract awards and abuse of office by the embattled registrar.
The registrar and four directors were suspended by the 9th Governing Board of NABTEB at its first regular board meeting held on 19th June at NABTEB headquarters, Benin City, Edo State, following allegations of N49.7 million fraud.
The four affected staff members are: Mr Nnasia Ndarake Asanga, Director, Finance & Accounts, Dr Obinna Opara, Director, Examination Administration, Alhaji Jimoh Adewola Kasali, Director, Examinations Development, and the Procurement Officer, Engr. Edwin Osamo. (NAN)
Socially conscious Nigerian-American musician, Tobe Nwigwe showed his solidarity to the Nigerian Super Eagles when he performed with the Nike designed jersey at the 2018 BET awards.
Nwigwe and his crew of dancers rocked the awards stage with the critically acclaimed jerseys and tracksuits to the admiration of the crowd.
Nwigwe became the first artist signed on to ETA Records as an edutainer—essentially an artist who uses entertainment as a means to educate their audience on a particular subject.
The edutainer is well knowned for his nonprofit organization ‘TeamGINI’, a name derived from “Gini Bu Nkpa Gi?”—Igbo for “What’s your purpose?” which thrives to help people discover their life purpose.
Reminiscing on the show, he took to his twitter handle on Monday @TobeNwigwe to thank Nike for gifting the World Cup kits to his crew.
He wrote, “We murdered the @bet stage. Shout out to @Nike (for) blessing the squad with the @ng_supereagles fits.
“Shout out to the entire @betmusicofficial staff!! Shout out to everyone that made this moment possible! We love you all!!
“#Staytuned for video footage from the performance. #Naijastandup #Swatstandup,” Nwigwe said.
The Nike designed jersey, the away kit, the training kit, the floral joggers and the training jacket sold out on its first day of release.
The kits earned the Super Eagles recognition as the “team with the best travelling uniform” in Russia by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The rating came after a world fashion magazine GQ rated Nigerian Super Eagles Jersey as the best for the 2018 World Cup. (NAN)

Following the murder of 86 people in Plateau state by Fulani Herdsmen, The Chairman, North Central zone of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Danladi Ciroma, has spoken out about the incident stating that he is averse to the taking of life.
Ciroma said: “These attacks are retaliatory. As much as I don’t support the killing of human being, the truth must be told that those who carried out the attacks must be on revenge mission.
“There have been recent reports of cow rustling and destruction of farms between Berom farmers and Fulani herdsmen. The people carrying out these criminal activities are well known to the communities but they are hiding them.
“Herdsmen have lost about 300 cows in the last few weeks – 94 cows were rustled by armed Berom youths in Fan village, another 36 cows were killed by Berom youths. In addition to that, 174 cattle were rustled and the criminals disappeared with them to Mangu.
“Since these cows were not found, no one should expect peace in the areas. Even soldiers that went after the criminals to recover the rustled cows were shot by the armed rustlers.
“The government of Governor Lalong has done a lot to restore peace, but the criminal elements hiding among their people are the ones frustrating these peace efforts.
“Though the security agencies have tried, they need to do more by being fair to all parties; they should not neglect any report presented by Fulani of Berom because such report can lead to attacks and deaths if not properly handled.
“Criminals thrive a lot in Berom communities, but when the Fulani, who are always victims of their crime, react with attacks, they blame the government.
“These communities have leaders, why hide the criminals? They should fish out the criminals and hand them over to security agencies to avoid death of innocent ones. As it is today, the Berom man cannot go to farm, the Fulani cannot breed his cows.
“This can be stopped if the security agencies do more than what they are currently doing. The attacks will stop as soon as the security agencies stop Berom youths from stealing Fulani cows.”
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday said that Saint Petersburg, the town hosting the all-important match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the La Albiceleste of Argentina had been flooded with fans from both countries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the grudge match between the two football powerhouses will be played at the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday.
Both countries will have it at the back of their minds that a win or burst situation when they square up will determine who picks the last spot for the qualifications to the knockout stages.
Croatia leads the standings in the Group D after securing six points from their last two matches having defeated Nigeria 2-0 and also walloped Argentina 3-0 thereby securing their qualification.
The remaining countries in the Group D, Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland will still fancy their qualifications to the knockout stages depending on their various results.
Nigeria will square up with Argentina the presumed biggest encounter of the 7 P.M matches to be played concurrently with Croatia versus Iceland.
Nigeria is on three points, while Argentina has only one point together with Iceland.
However, the intensity generated by the match have attracted many fans who are eager to watch another epic encounter between the Super Eagles and the La Albiceleste.
“Never in the history of Saint Petersburg has it seen such an unending influx of Nigerians and Argentines.
“Large contingent of nationals of both countries have continued to pour into the city through the Pulkovo Airport and by other entry points.
“A fresh influx of Nigerians, who have made their own private arrangements to watch the FIFA World Cup (particularly the Nigeria/Argentina match), started arriving in Saint Petersburg on Thursday last week.
“Hotels in the city are bursting at the seams as football–loving Nigerians and Argentines from different parts of the world, as well as those resident in Russia, have swooped on Russia’s second city,’’ it said.
It added that the Senate President Bukola Saraki will lead the cheers for the Super Eagles, alongside Ambassador Steve Davies Ugbah, Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung who returned to Saint Petersburg on Monday.
“The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Olusade Adesola, as well as other members of the Nigeria Government delegation.
“Members of the National Assembly (Senators and House of Representative Members), NFF Executive Committee Members, Members of the NFF Congress and former NFF Presidents and General Secretaries will also be at the match venue.
“Former Nigeria coach Adegboye Onigbinde, directors in the Youth and Sports Ministry, Alhaji Abba Yola, Mr Mainasara Illo and delegations from different States.
“Other stakeholders, including Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club owners are among those who will also cheer the Super Eagles live,’’ it said. (NAN)
RCCG is arguably the biggest Church in Nigeria. The Church is over half a century old. They are famous and influential. Their lead Pastor, Adeboye, took over from the founder circa 1981.
The Church is literally everywhere across Southern Nigeria. The Church also has branches around the world.
The Church has an outlined vision, and its mission is to get there. Tens of millions of people have found hope, at some point, through this Church. And they have inspiring workers and parishes.
The Church has millions of regular members, and holds events at their campground – currently on its fourth capacity development.
Their Pastor is a likable man, at least for majority – before the recent era of social media and ascent of Osinbajo, a Pastor too; to Vice President of Nigeria, making hate messages and criticisms supercharge topics and events around him.
Now, it is fun for many to blame him, accuse him, criticize him and wish the worst for him.
Thankfully, he’s still going strong.
Those who took the hate purpose to heart forgot that the Church he leads is bigger than any individual –Pastor or Member [genuine or otherwise].
His critics for some weird reason think RCCG or true Churches – in general – are not good for the people. But that is not the case.
The Pastor should have been an example of passion, focus and creativity for anyone who could learn and notice. But since he’s not an acclaimed industry executive, or some rogue pol, or an entertainer, they cannot see him – and the whole team – for their transcendent achievements in their mission.
Anyone can say whatever they want about RCCG, but the Church, on their mission to spread the gospel have done excellently great – and they are marching on. Assuming the heads of Nigeria’s electricity from thirty years ago made vision their priority, a University VC, recently, will not say most of their budget was used – to buy diesel. Or better put, there will be uninterrupted electricity in Nigeria.
So, because the Church is principally focused on people’s transformed minds, and not national development, it does not mean the Church and their leader are misplaced, NO! They aren’t.
There is so little the Church can do in the whole Nigeria underdevelopment situation. Even banks hoard loans to SMEs and with all their hyped technology – they are super wary of chiselers. But the Church from time took trust risks and had a welfare department, gave and still gives.
But how much difference is expected, even if a Church gives in a local government of one million people, say to five percent, what difference will it make in the whole Nigeria condition, if those responsible do nothing?
Speaking strictly of the market, why is the generator market successful in Nigeria; And, more so successful, than solar – so far? Generators success is a result of a sector’s total failure and cannot be compared to other products that are necessities – differing from those as insurance.
But Church is different from a product, or any product. Church is a place of Hope, and a place where Faith grows. There are all kinds of people who go to Church and remain there during and after a situation. Why? Because they found Faith and Hope as necessities against anxiety, pain, sickness, hardships, challenges, insufficiency, loneliness, etc.
Church is also a place of prayer against evil, wickedness, ill-wishes and uncertainties, prevalent across Nigeria.
There is a demand for Church. And it seems normal to respond to the demand with more Churches, more branches and more Pastors. Does it mean Churches are a hindrance to development? NO! Does it also mean that if Nigeria became developed everyone will stop going to Church? NO, also.
Nigeria is heavily distracted and carefree about progress measurement. Churches do so much that the society refused to offer. Nigeria is not a country that cares about therapy sessions. Churches for some represent these; there are few career counselors for students across Nigeria, but Churches and Church groups help in some ways. There is also the optimism angle to life – preached in Churches, in an environment were almost everything is discouraging. Churches also have more rehabilitation homes.
Big Church or Big Pastor
A pastor’s son who does a lot of social media to maybe humanize himself, or feel like an everyday guy, or for tongue-in-cheek, recently ran into a controversy over a video where he seemed liked he was joking, mentioning farming then went on to say other stuff. Criticism of the video, by Daddy Freeze, was picked up across blogs and some of the comments were grim.
Whatever he said in that video was not a scandal, probably does not represent the views of the Church or his Dad, and does not exactly matter. But in trying to be like an average guy, or trendy and jovial, there is a window to make ill-advised posts and to sometimes misfire. Not like there is exactly anything wrong with ‘cool’ jokes, but the optics of some of it in a charged era of relentless church attacks, may mean to dial things down – especially from someone so close to the Pastor. Who knows?
Pastors seem big in Nigeria and look like they are really at the top. But if it is a true Pastor leading a true Church, the Church and the Mission are bigger. The loyalty a lot of people – truly serving and committed in Church – is to Christ Jesus. Though they respect their Pastors, but they look unto Jesus the Author and the Finisher of their Faith.
This recognition is what so many have refused to understand, that genuinely doing what is done in a Church does not mean being used, it means Faith – and rightfully so. Some of the people who criticize Churches and Pastors have sometimes blared ‘nobody owes you anything’ with respect to uncles, aunties, or richer siblings or friends, but for Churches and Pastors, they excuse that and blame.
One of the signature moves – kneeling – of the Pastor Adeboye, before most or all of his sermons is also to say let’s go before the Almighty GOD in total humility. This is part of the recognition for him that while he leads, the Church or the Purpose does not belong to him. He believes he’s a vessel for the purpose, and he stops short of taking glory or feeling like he’s totally in charge or everything. Some may argue against these, but is mostly the case.
Yes, RCCG is bigger than Pastor Adeboye. He’s a part of the mission and vision, but the Head of the Church is Christ. It is so painful that Nigeria has come to a time when Pastors – especially true ones – are easily ridiculed and blamed.
Those involved feel so smart and feel others are foolish. Well, real foolishness and stupidity are rarely voluntary, so going to Church or giving is nowhere near those. There are foolish things people do and cannot control: e.g. irresistible stupid thinking is close to the greatest foolishness. For these sets of ‘smart – hate Church – people’ that have been unable to change Nigeria one bit towards real development, the thing in front of them that they cannot see and cannot think should worry them more than true Churches – changing destinies.
Some Argentina fans who are in Russia to support their nation have described Ahmed Musa as a big threat to their continuous stay at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Some of the Argentines in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Moscow, the Russia capital, said the Super Eagles were in better state of mind going into the match.
To Santiago Lautaro, the Super Eagles are more of a team than the Argentines.
“We only have only individual talents but not a team.
“Ahmed Musa is as dangerous as Lionel Messi but you know he has done better than the Barcelona star in Russia 2018,” Lautaro said.
Matias Franco told NAN that Musa had good statistics against his country but wished the CSKA Moskva player would not have a good day when the Super Eagles filed out against them.
“Our performance has not been good in this competition but it is not over yet.
“I hope we can have a better performance against Nigeria on Tuesday because it will be sad to leave the World Cup now.
“Our defenders must be weary of Musa’s threat, he is a good player and you remember he scored two goals against us the last time we met,” Franco said.
Augustin Nicolas, believes that his country will beat Nigeria in the last group game on Tuesday in St. Petersburg because they are the better side.
Nicolas boasted that the Argentines would get themselves better in the game against Nigeria even though he admitted that the Super Eagles are a better side.
The Super Eagles will face the Argentines for the fourth time in the World Cup at the St. Petersburg stadium on Tuesday.

Some supporters of the Super Eagles have warned the team against defensive play in their third group match at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Nigerian national team will file out against Argentina in their third group game on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles, which fell 2-0 in favour of Croatia in their opening match, defeated Iceland 2-0 in the second group game.
Tonye Orabere, a sports reporter, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a defensive play pattern against the Argentine side would not produce needed result.
He said “we need to show the kind of aggression shown during the second half of our match against Iceland, we need to be proactive.
“This game should bring out the best in the Super Eagles, it is a game they must use to make their supporters happy.”
Another supporter, Christopher Nkwachukwu, a civil servant, said that the Super Eagles should move for an early goal against the Lionel Messi-led side.
“They can achieve this by keeping Messi on good check, they must ensure that he is rendered unproductive and adequately caged,’’ he said.
Eshiet Bassey, a commercial driver, said that there may not be need for any formation change during the game, saying, “ what we need is aggression and resilience’’
“We must agree that the Argentine team is a strong side; we cannot afford to give them any opportunity to stay long within our half.
“ This is the game to decide our fate, we must approach it with the right spirit to enable the team move to the next stage of the game.” (NAN)

A Zimbabwean cop allegedly engaged in a secret romance with his wife’s younger sister and impregnated her apparently in a bid to spite his “abusive and disrespectful” wife.
Tabani Nyurura had not only betrayed the love and trust his wife Mavis Munedzimwe, a student at Great Zimbabwe University invested in him by having an affair with her younger sister but was also reportedly in the habit of taking girlfriends to their matrimonial home during her absence.
To make matters worse, Nyurura did not only impregnate his wive’s sister, he is also resolute on marrying Munedzimwe’s younger sister and contemplating showing her (Munedzimwe) a red card.
Nyurura’s illicit sexual affair with his sister-in-law was exposed by his wife at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he was seeking a protection order against her.
“I had been staying with Mavis Munedzimwe as husband and wife but she is now violent towards me. Sometime in December 2016 she hit me with a stone on the head.
“On 24 April this year she came to my workplace and beat me up in front of my bosses and subordinates and tore my uniform in the process. When I went to my village she took my identification particulars, certificates and clothes and went away before she came back on 26 May and beat me up with a cooking stick and stone on the head,” said Nyurura.
He said his wife also threatened to stab him with a kitchen knife.
Munedzimwe, however, disputed the accusations noting that Nyurura was a “serial bed-hopper” who was only after using women.
“He is in the habit of exchanging women and I am his third wife. After using them (other women) he then sought protection orders against them. What he is doing to me now, he did it to his two ex-wives. His bosses are even fed up with his extra-marital issues.
“He is now staying with my younger sister whom he impregnated. I reported the matter to his bosses and he was chased out of the camp.
She added: “He once chained and assaulted me and as a result I suffered a miscarriage. The other time he deserted me and when I followed him where he was staying I found him with another woman. When I tried to beat up that woman he restrained me.
“The other day when I came back from school I found him again with another woman in our matrimonial bedroom and he locked me outside,” she said.
Nyurura then hit back.
“She is lying that I impregnated her younger sister and I no longer love her,” Nyurura tersely responded subsequently courting his wife’s anger.
“He can’t say that he no longer loves me. If he is no longer interested in me he should take me back to my parents and pay a beast since we have a child together”.
In his ruling the presiding magistrate Tinashe Tashaya ordered both parties not to verbally, physically and emotionally abuse each other.
He also ordered Munedzimwe not to visit her husband’s workplace and on the other hand Nyurura not to evict his wife from the house the parties were staying.

Super Eagles’ defender, Kenneth Omeruo, is of no illusion that Nigeria’s clash with Argentina tomorrow would be a walk in the pack. The former U-20 national team stalwart has been involved in several clashes with the Albiceleste, including the 2-3 loss to the Lionel Messi-inspired team in Brazil four years ago. That was the third time Argentina would beat Nigeria at the World Cup.
Although he has been involved in two victories over the South Americans in international friendlies, the Chelsea defender knows that when the chips are down the Argies have a way of rising to the occasion.
Omeruo distinguished himself so creditably in the make or mar clash with Iceland on Friday that he has been tipped to retain his place in the 3-5-2 formation expected to be adopted by Gernot Rohr on Tuesday. But he acknowledges that anything short of a draw will make Today’s success worthless in this competition.
“Argentina will pose a different type of test from what we got in the game against Iceland. They are desperate to remain in the competition, but we will work hard to ensure it is not at our expense. If we lose on Tuesday the victory over Iceland would become meaningless,” he said.Omeruo thanked Nigerians for sticking with the Eagles even after the loss to Croatia, adding that beating Iceland has given them a new spirit ahead of Tuesday’s clash.
“We knew the type of opposition we would get from Iceland because we studied them. The coach always warned us about their long balls, so we prepared for it. We also worked on defending set-pieces because it had been a problem to us,” he added.
Reports from the Argentina camp say the Albiceleste have passed a vote of no confidence in their Manager, Jorge Sampaoli and have elected the big players, Lionel Messi, Javier Mescharano and Angel di Maria to pick the team that will play against Nigeria tomorrow.
Argentina needs to beat Nigeria to retain hopes of qualifying for the second round of the competition and the players feel they may not achieve that if Sampaoli continued to manage the squad. Although the Argentina Football Association (AFA) has given the coach the nod to continue in his position, it has also allowed the players to select the line up for tomorrow’s game.
The London Mail reports that the players met with the AFA general manager, Jorge Burruchaga shortly after Thursday’s 0-3 loss to Croatia and they agreed the stars would decide who plays in the crucial game against Nigeria.
According to 1986 World Cup winner, Ricardo Giusti, Burruchaga has confirmed that the coach has been stripped of his effective power ahead of the Nigeria game.Giusti said: “The players will decide the team, that’s a fact. If Sampaoli wants to sit in the bench, he can do it. If not, no problem.’Sampaoli was reported to be in talks with Argentine FA president Claudio Tapia late on Saturday night but looked like keeping his job, though having to take account of the players’ concerns.
Messi and Javier Mascherano, as the senior players, would be most likely to be consulted to revive the campaign, with Argentina needing a win over Nigeria to take second place in the group, assuming that Iceland don’t beat Croatia and better Argentina’s goal difference.
Argentina has only one point from two matches after drawing 1-1 with Iceland and recording an embarrassing 0-3 loss to Croatia. The Albiceleste is bottom of group D table, two points adrift of second, and need a win against Nigeria to stand any chance of progressing.
The report claims that Messi is particularly worried that if Argentina failed to qualify for the second round, his dream of winning the World Cup would be dashed forever. The skipper who has been given one last chance to try and salvage his fledgling campaign by Nigeria’s defeat of Iceland, says they must now beat the Eagles in their final group game to have any chance of progressing.
He told the London Mirror, “It means so much because for Argentina the World Cup is special – and for me too.“I’ve always had the dream of watching me raise the World Cup. And then seeing the emotion that goes with it.“My hair stands on end just thinking about that moment. It would make millions of Argentine’s in the world happy. So we cannot give up on that dream.’’
The Super Eagles know that tomorrow’s clash with Argentina will not be any holiday and so the team is doing everything to ensure it is up to scratch for it. It is taking nothing for granted, including the weather conditions, which keep changing from city to city.
While Volgograd, venue of Friday’s match with Iceland, was just what the doctor prescribed for Nigeria, St. Petersburg will pose a different condition as it is predicted to be far colder than anything the Super Eagles have encountered in the last six months. Volgograd fluctuated between 26.6 Celsius and 27 Celsius on Friday, but St. Petersburg is expected to be as low as between 18 degree Celsius at the worst and 22 degree Celsius tomorrow.
According to an official of the Super Eagles, the team has changed its training pattern to be in tune with the conditions expected in St. Petersburg.“Normally, we usually rest for a day after a match but the coaches took the team to training on Saturday as part of preparation for Tuesday’s match. We know St. Petersburg would be much colder than Volgograd, so we want to be prepared for it,” he told The Guardian.
He revealed that the team was not worried so much about the weather because most of the players live in Europe and are used to such conditions. “Ahmed Musa, Bryan Idowu, Leon Balogun and the players based in England are familiar to Europe’s extreme cold weather. But then we want to be prepared for on the pitch conditions, which is very important.
“We will train in St. Petersburg this evening and have a feel of the pitch on Monday. The players and officials are ready for anything they will face in the game against Argentina, but we are also working to ensure we don’t experience any surprise in the game,” he said.
Nigeria will face Argentina in its final group match tomorrow in St. Petersburg. If Nigeria wins, it will advance to the round of 16. But if Argentina claims all three points, it can still advance depending on the result of the other match between Croatia and Iceland.
At a time when many actors are opting to own choice houses in posh parts of Lagos, popular actor Aremu Afolayan is not convinced that they made their money through the craft.
The actor told Saturday Beats that Nigerians are quick to believe anything especially once it is on the internet but the truth is that most actors driving big cars most likely got their money from influential people.
He said, “By the way, I live my life, people tend to think that I am the richest Yoruba actor, but that is a lie. Nigerians assume a lot. I live in a rented apartment because I cannot afford to build one. When they see me buy a new car, they don’t know if I paid for the car in instalments; instead they call me a big boy. What type of big boy lives on N50,000 or N100,000 income per film as an actor? I challenge any Nigerian actor that is living larger than life to state how they made their money because I am sure it is not from the movies they make. I am talking about both the English and Yoruba actors. If they like, they can say they make N5m per film, they cannot afford to build or buy a house at Lekki or Victoria Island or Ikoyi. It is impossible. They should call out mathematicians to figure it out. It is a lie. It is because they meet some influential people that give them businesses or they have side businesses. Since we do not all meet such people or make the kind of money they make through these people, we just have to be content with what we have. In my life, I have never seen an ‘educated illiterate’ country like Nigeria. Nigerians are very gullible when it comes to judging other people’s lifestyle since they do not know anything, they assume. Then social media came and it made things worse.”
The filmmaker who is often referred to as one of the most controversial actors in the industry for his outspoken nature told Saturday Beats that he was shocked when Nigerians tagged him as a homosexual simply because a picture of him pecking a man surfaced online. He said that at a time, Nigerians called him a gigolo. Now, they are referring to him as gay simply because of a publicity stunt.
“I went to a store with a friend to pick up a wristwatch I had been paying for in instalments. My friend was taking pictures when I told him that we should cause trouble on social media with a picture of me pecking him. When I posted the picture, it went viral within 15 minutes. In fact, we were still in the store when the picture went viral. I was shocked that Nigerians would even conceive the idea that I am gay because I love women. Anybody can be gay and I mean no disrespect to them but as for me, the picture was just done for publicity stunt. I never knew it would go viral that fast.
“People call me a gigolo; how come I do not have money? I know a lot of people that are gigolos and they are doing fine. If they say I am an actor and gigolo, why would I have to sell a car in order to afford another car? What is wrong with me buying Versace and Ferragamo? Why would I be a gigolo and not dress like a posh boy? Why would I be wearing slippers everywhere I go? So why should I answer the people calling me a gigolo? I do not have to convince anyone; when I know that at the end of the day, I would not waste my time convincing you about anything. You can think about anything you like but I am not here to convince anyone,” Afolayan said.
When popular comic actor, Victor Osuagwu got married, it was the talk of the town and the wedding pictures trended online for days. His wedding was not on the lips of many people because he is an entertainer; instead the reason was that he did something weird; the thespian used a tipper truck to convey his wife from church to the reception instead of a car.
In a recent chat with Saturday Beats, he said that it was a very fulfilling thing to do. “I felt very fulfilled using a tipper truck as my wedding vehicle because that was my target, I never thought of anything less than what happened on that day. Some people thought the picture was from a movie set but a lot of people knew it was my wedding.
It was a long journey going to the reception and we caused a heavy traffic in town. It was not that I did not have the good cars or I did not have the money to rent lovely cars but people that know me are aware that I am a crazy entertainer and I wanted to show the world another part of me,” Osuagwu said.
The actor said his decision to use the truck shocked his wife. He said, “I wanted to carry over entertainment from the television to reality. My wife never knew I was going to do that even Francis Duru who was my best man. When we came out of the church, people just noticed that there was a well decorated truck but nobody knew what was going on.
People thought the lorry was there to convey goods until my wife told me that we should go into the car as her leg was aching because of the shoe she wore. When she asked which of the cars we were to use, I pointed at the lorry. She was so surprised and it was one of the biggest shocks of her life. She was dumbfounded.
Francis Duru overheard what I told my wife and had to ask the same question and I told him it was the lorry my wife and I would ride in. I told everyone to enter all the available SUVs but that we would arrive at the reception in the tipper truck. All my wife said was, ‘this is going to be great but how would I climb into it?’ the vehicle was not an ordinary lorry but a double hassle truck, the big one. When we got to the lorry, the people brought a ladder for her to climb into the lorry.”
Osuagwu who was recently unveiled as the brand ambassador for HelpApp Limited said he was delightful by the gesture.
He said, “I am humbled they chose me as their brand ambassador and it means that the company means well for all my fans, family and admirers. They believe that with me on board, people would know about their product. The product would help us eradicate water pollution,” he said.
