Barcelona Complete Permanent Asisat Oshoala Signing

Asisat Oshoala

Barcelona have exercised the option to sign Nigeria striker Asisat Oshoala on a permanent deal from Dalian Quanjian.

The 24-year-old initially joined Barca on a six-month loan deal in January following the postponement of 2019 Chinese Women's Super League. She went on to establish herself in the team with eight goals after 11 games in all competitions.

The Nigeria international was in fine form for Llius Cortes' side in the Liga Iberdrola and Uefa Champions League with her attacking prowess.
Her impressive performances convinced the club to hand her a two-year contract that will keep her in Catalonia until June 2022.

Oshoala was part of Barcelona's fairytale run to the Uefa Women's Champions League final and scored the consolation goal in their 4-1 loss to Lyon in Budapest.

Her Champions League final appearance and goal saw her made history in the elite European competition.

"Asisat Oshoala and FC Barcelona have linked a new contract until June 30, 2022, after the agreement for transfer from the club on the 1st of July between Dalian Quanjian and Dalian club," the club announced on its website.

"The Nigerian forward, 24, arrived at Barca on January 31 as a transfer from the Chinese entity. In these four months, Oshoala has played eleven official games as a coach and scored eight goals, including the first team in a Champions League final in Budapest.

"The three-time best African soccer player of the year is currently concentrated with the Nigerian national team before playing the World Cup in France, starting June 7. When the calendar so permits, the act of signing of the new Oshoala contract with Barca will take place."

Before reuniting with her Barca teammates later this year, Oshoala will be aiming to help Nigeria to 2019 Women's World Cup glory in France this summer.

Serious Outrage As Fans Compare Naira Marley To Afrobeat Legend, Fela Kuti

Naira Marley

There was outrage on Twitter Nigeria on Thursday after fans of Naira Marley compared their “idol” to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the late Afrobeat legend.

Shortly after the internet was inundated with news that the ‘Japa’ singer has been granted bail, a group of fans called ‘Marlians’ took to Twitter to hail the singer and eventually compared him to the legendary pioneer of Afrobeat.

Fela was once incarcerated for a period of time. While leaving the court premises, Marley took both hands up to give fans a “victory salute” — only known to the late Afrobeat legend.

This prompted the comparison as it did not go down well with a segment of Twitter users.

“May God in His entire might punish all and sundry that ever mention or compare The Great Fela to fraudster Nairamarly, imbeciles,” a Twitter user wrote.

“Naira Marley case is different from that of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, only a foolish bastard will liken both. Naira Marley is a fraudster, Fela is an activist,” another user wrote.

Regina Daniels Disowns 'Father' On Social Media

Regina Daniels

Regina Daniels has reacted to claims that her father wasn't informed about her marriage. In a cryptic message, she revealed that attempts have been made to impersonate her father but she knows who the real man is.

"Every Dick and Harry claiming to be my father that is if I have one. Yo! I know who my father is," she said on social media.

It would be recalled that a man claiming to be her father, Barr. Jude Ojeogwu has claimed ignorance of her moneyed marriage to one billionaire Ned Nwoko who is 62 years old.

In an exclusive chat with E-Daily, the actress’ father, Barrister Jude Ojeogwu revealed how Regina and her two brothers, deceived him into believing that there was no romance between her and Ned Nwoko.

“I invited Regina to my house where I live in Lagos; (I can’t disclose the location of my house right now for security reasons); she came to my house with her siblings (Lawrence and Samuel Ojeogwu) and I asked her if all I’ve been hearing is true because I wanted to know what was actually going on. She ‘Daddy, nothing is going on.’ I asked my first son, her brother, Lawrence Ojeogwu, the same question and he also said nothing was going on.

"I then asked my other son, Samuel, the same question, he too said the same thing, ‘Daddy nothing is going on’. I said okay, should we now say all that I’ve been hearing and seeing is more like a movie? And they said ‘Yes’. However, I advised that if she wants to get married to an old man, she (Regina) should not forget that very soon she (Regina) would become a widow. But that if she is getting married to a man like her age mate, of the cause, becoming a widow would be far from her (Regina).

"That was where we finished the discussion about her marriage. I went further to ask what was happening about her education because I used to visit her in her school, Igbinedion University. She said she has plans of travelling to Dubai for her studies. I asked her what was in Dubai if not Arabic; that she should be thinking of going to Havard or Oxford University”, he said.

He added that when videos of the actress’ initiation ceremony into ‘Otu Odu’ surfaced online and that of the traditional ceremony, he was forced to finally speak.”

Buhari Sets New Record, Fails To Deliver Inauguration Speech

Buhari at his swearing-in

President Muhammadu Buhari has set a new record by being the first democratically elected leader in the history of Nigeria not to deliver an inaugural speech, Punch Metro reports.

The President and his deputy, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, both took the oath of office between 10 and 11am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.

The norm since the inauguration of the late Prime Minister, Sir. Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa, has been for democratically elected leaders to address Nigerians and inform the nation of their plans and offer words of assurances to the people.

Tafawa-Balewa delivered the first of such speeches on October 1, 1960 after the union jack had been lowered.

In the speech, he praised the resilience of Nigerians during the over 60 years of colonialism and also thanked foreign countries for supporting the nation in its drive for independence.

Nigeria’s second democratically elected leader, Shehu Shagari, also delivered inaugural speeches on October 1, 1979 and October 1, 1983 upon his re-election.

In the first speech, Shagari called on all politicians, regardless of party affiliation, to unite to make Nigeria one and to also ensure that military rule never returned.

In his second inaugural speech in 1983, Shagari said the past four years had brought Nigeria peace and stability. The task for the new administration, he said, ”will no more involve the erection of a system but rather to ensure efficient working of that system.”

He was removed in a coup by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari less than three months thereby marking the end of the Second Republic.

In the Fourth Republic, Olusegun Obasanjo, in his own inaugural speech on May 29, 1999, vowed that there would be no sacred cows in his government and he would fight corruption to the best of his ability.

In his second inauguration in 2003, Obasanjo thanked his deputy, Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and members of his cabinet for the successes he had recorded especially in the area of economy and improving the standard of living of Nigerians.

In Umaru Yar’Adua’s speech delivered on May 29, 2007, the President admitted that the election which ushered in his administration was flawed and promised to focus on electoral reform.

Upon Yar’Adua’s death in 2010, his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, was sworn in on May 6, 2010, and in his speech, he promised to continue with Yar’Adua’s agenda especially in the area of electoral reform and fighting corruption.

The following year, Jonathan was inaugurated for a fresh term of four years on May 29, 2011.

In the speech, the President thanked Nigerians for making history by voting in a person from a minority tribe as President.

In his own inaugural speech on May 29, 2015, Buhari, who made history as the first opposition politician to be voted into power, delivered the memorable speech, ‘I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody’.

However, upon his swearing-in on May 29, 2019, Buhari merely took the oaths of office and allegiance, inspected the guards’ brigade, jumped into his convoy and left.

Breaking News: Obasanjo Escapes Plane Crash In Lagos

Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigerian president and other Nigerians escaped death on Wednesday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other prominent Nigerians in the Ethiopian airline passenger aircraft, Boeing 777-300, included the Director General of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni.

Also in the plane was Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo, the Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) as well as scores of Nigerians and other nationals.

The passenger aircraft, ET-901, had departed the Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, at about 9:10 a.m., Ethiopian time; 7 a.m Nigerian time.

A NAN correspondent, who was among the passengers, recalled that the almost 5-hour flight from the Ethiopian capital to Lagos had been smooth until the pilot attempted to land at the Murtala Mohammed International airport.

Rather than landing on the first touch line of the runway, the pilot over short it, due to rain and heavy wind, landing on the third touchline.

NAN reports that, on realising this, the pilot quickly manouvered the plane back air, flying out of the Lagos airport.

After hovering around between Lagos and areas suspected to be in Ogun, causing panic in passengers and crew members, the plane landed in Lagos airport, some 20 minutes after the initial false landing.

The atmosphere in the air bus upon landing was replica of what is obtainable in some Nigerian worship centers, as many passengers broke out into worship songs and clapping, while some fell to their knees in prayer.

The duty manager and Chief Customer Service (Nigeria) of the airline, Mr Otori Jimoh Otan, told NAN that if the pilot had continued taxing down after landing on the third touch line, he would have overshot the runway.

“But this is an experienced pilot. He realised this immediately.

“Fortunately, the distance between when he realised the situation still permitted him to take off and renegotiate landing,” Otori said.

Obasanjo and Olukanni had both attended a Stakeholders Dialogue on Continental Trade and Strengthening Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) which ended on Tuesday in Addis Ababa.

The outgoing governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, is absent at the formal inauguration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to him, the new governor deserves to enjoy his historic day without having him share in the glory with him.

Senate Passes Bill To Change YABATECH To City University Of Technology

YABATECH

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday passed a bill to convert the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) to City University of Technology.

The bill seeking the conversion was sponsored by Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos-APC). It was read the first time on November 16, 2016.

In his lead debate, Mr Ashafa argued that Nigeria’s march towards providing education for all in the shortest possible time informed his introduction of the bill.

He said the new university will encourage the advancement of’ learning among other benefits.

The institution will “Provide courses of instruction and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches, and to make those facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them;

“Encourage and promote scholarship and conduct research in all fields of learning with an emphasis on technical education;

“Relate its activities to the social, cultural and economic needs of the people of Nigeria; and undertake any other activities appropriate for a university of the highest standards,” he stated.

Mr Ashafa said the country should be ready to adjust its educational institutions in line with its aim of becoming one of the world’s leading economies as currently being pursued by the government.

He added that the institution will help bridge technological challenges inherent in such projections.

When the bill is enacted into law, he said the institution will have the power to establish campuses, institute professorships and readerships, award fellowships and scholarships, grant degrees, diplomas, certificates as well as honorary degrees.

He stated that section 8 of the bill has provided that all property held by or on behalf of YABATECH shall be vested in the university and be held by it for the purposes of the university.

“Notably, all the staff hereby transferred to the university and previous service shall count as service for the purposes of any pension payable by the university,” he added.

The bill was passed in a unanimous vote by the lawmakers.

New Polytechnic in Lagos

Similarly, the Senate passed a bill for the establishment of The Federal Polytechnic, Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

Mr Ashafa said the polytechnic will provide full-time courses in technology, applied science management and other fields of studies.

He added that the institution will provide knowledge “In such other fields of applied learning relevant to the needs of the development of Nigeria in the area of industrial and agricultural production and distribution and for research in the development and adaptation of techniques as the Council may from time to time determine.”

The bill was also passed by the lawmakers.

Fresh Controversy Greets Naira Marley's Incarceration As Fan Threatens Ruggedman, Dolapo Badmus

Naira Marley

Controversies trailing the incarceration of Nigerian street music rapper, Azeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley, following a Federal High Court’s order to remand him in prison pending the consideration of his bail application on May 30, 2019, are beginning to get messy as a fan has threatened to assassinate Ruggedman and former Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, if the rapper is eventually sentenced to prison.

According to the fan who believes Ruggedman and Dolapo are the brains behind Marley’s arrest by the EFCC, no matter how long it takes, he would hunt them down even if he is eventually apprehended.

Meanwhile, Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola has shared her thoughts on the matter which is gradually becoming a household conversation.

“I don’t know Naira Marley, I don’t have any form of relationship with him, and I’ve never even seen him on social media. One thing I want Nigerians to recognize is that two wrongs never make a right. The fact that there is no money in the country does not justify corruption; because our politicians are doing it does not make it right.

"We should understand the implications of what we do; the world see us in a negative light when we do things wrong, Nigerians are seen as crooks all over the world. True change starts with you. What happened to the values that our parents taught us? Let us look inwards and think out of the box. There are lots of things we can do to make legitimate money. My take is we have to start building a stronger and better Nigeria from you,” she said.

However, Kemi Olunloyo, who has been pleading with EFCC to free Marley, continues to blame Simi for bringing misfortune to him.

“This is why I hate forced conversations; Simi forced one so as to trend. Do you hear New York real estate dealers tell Russian gangsters and mafia not to buy their properties? The whole of Manhattan is owned by top Russian mafia guys. You ignited a mess in the Nigerian financial crimes war and a fast rising singer, now a legend, was arrested on his birthday during the fasting season of your Muslim brothers and sisters.

"That’s like you being arrested on that lovely wedding day on Easter weekend. There is no food in the prisons let alone the Muslims who can only eat at 7pm and no Sari allowed. You are locked up 5pm, opened 9am. VIP or not you are not totally free. They watch you like a hawk, and you have to pay the fraudulent Nigerian prison service for that wing”, she said.

Meanwhile, a video raining unprintable curses on Ruggedman has surfaced on social media. Some fans of Naira Marley, popularly known as ‘Marlians’ were spotted doing some sort of sacrifice against Ruggedman for his suspected involvement in the rappers arrest. In the video tagged ‘Ruggedman must fall’, they could be heard calling the veteran musician’s name and laying curses on him.

However reacting to the threat, IK Ogbonna wrote ‘When a dog barks. throw in a bone’.

Tonto Dikeh who fired back, stated that IK Ogbonna’s ass in leaking and she is patiently waiting for the bone he’s going to throw in, as she is not going to stop barking anytime soon.

Missing 11-year-old Girl Allegedly Hypnotized And Kidnapped Finally Found In Lagos (Photo)

Ogochukwu

Parents and guardians of an eleven year-old Ogochukwu Anichebe who went missing last week have been left in jubilatory mood after she was found alive but disoriented.

It has been alleged she was reportedly hypnotized before being kidnapped.

According to her family, she was spotted in Yaba area of Lagos and taken to the Police station where the initial missing person report was lodged. She was said be disoriented and unable to remember what had happened to her, which seems to indicate that she was hypnotized and kidnapped.

PRAISE THE LORD PEOPLE: OGOCHUKWU ANICHEBE HAS JUST BEEN FOUND!

The young girl I reported missing the other day, Ogochukwu Anichebe has been found. A neighbor of her mum sighted her in Yaba this evening with two guys and called the attention of her parents.

On arrival in Yaba, the 11 year old Ogochukwu was rescued from what seemed more like a kidnap and hypnotism and was taken to the Police Station where an initial report of her missing had been lodged.

She couldn’t remember anything or what happened to her, nor what was done to her.

I will give you guys more reports on this as I get them, but shockingly, this sounds exactly like of the girl in Ajah, Lagos who got missing for days, but was found later according to the dad, in an uncompleted building somewhere far from town.

I’m happy Ogochukwu has been found, but please, what exactly do I tell her parents to do right away?

Thanks to everyone here who showed concern.

God bless us all!
