We must protect our citizens from slavery – Saraki

The Nigeria Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called on the government to do more to protect its citizens.

He said, “As a country, truly, it is a slap on the face of all of us if Nigerians can be treated in this manner. Like somebody said, Ivory Coast that is not as big as us is taking action to see how they can bring their own citizens back. We need to be doing similar things.”

The senators unanimously granted prayers of Garbai’s motion, including to “condemn in totality the current depravity and sheer animalism being exhibited by these Libyans selling fellow Africans as slaves.”

They also urged the Federal Government to urgently investigate how many Nigerians were affected by the slave sales.

The lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to urgently commence the process of repatriation and rehabilitation of Nigerian citizens “caught up in these despicable treatment and human rights abuses.”

The Senate further urged the Federal Government to “take all diplomatic steps, including summoning the Libyan ambassador in Abuja to brief the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure that everyone involved is held accountable to face the full weight of international law and justice.”

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, made an additional prayer to “urge the governments at all levels in Africa to take steps to ameliorate the economic hardships feeding this migration crisis.”

Pretty 19 Years Old Lady Set to Marry Her 53 Years Old Lover, Shares Loved

A woman has defied her family to fly many miles from home to be with a 53-year-old man who is the love of her life.

A 19-year-old has revealed how she plans to marry a man 33 years her senior after they fell in love while chatting online.

Michaela Matson, 19, from Omaha in Nebraska, says she's madly in love with truck driver fiancé William Maldera, 53, after meeting on an 'emotion venting' app last year.

The photography student says she was initially attracted to his 'handsome' photo online and after months of speaking multiple times per week over video chat, they decided to finally meet - and they've been together ever since.

But after telling her parents about William, they told her to end the relationship, took her passport away and sent her to a psychologist.

Determined and love-struck Michaela went against their wishes to get her passport reissued and flew 1,500 miles to be with her other half in Alberta, Canada.

Two-months-ago, the pair with a 33-year age gap got engaged but say they are holding off on the nuptials until next year when Michaela's parents have had time to 'adapt to the situation'.

Until then the couple who are often affectionate in public 'laugh it off' when they are confused for 'father and daughter' rather than future husband and wife.

Michaela, a photography student, said:

'The first time I saw William's photo, I was thinking 'Wow, he's handsome' and was attracted to him straight away. 'I liked his nose, it's cute and crooked - because his mom broke it as a child - then he has the most gorgeous light brown eyes that are completely breath-taking.

'I didn't know who he was at first, but he caught my eye and after we started talking more and more, gradually I realised I was falling for this man.

'We were video calling on Facebook almost daily, if not three to four times a week, dependent on his work and my school schedule.

'He made the first big move by saying 'I love you' and I said it back a month later, he hit all the right areas with me apart from me living in America and him in Canada.

'My plan was to go and visit him without telling my mom other than leaving a note, but my man wanted me to tell her before I left.

'Then both my mom and William wanted me to tell my dad, I had a bad feeling about telling him and I have never seen him so upset in my life.

'He threatened to disown me if I decided to keep dating William

'Then I was sent to see a psychologist, who agreed with what my parents wanted that I had to 'end it' with William.

'Whenever I was texting him, my dad asked if I was talking to 'the piece of ****'.

'Because I had given my mom my passport after telling my parents about, what should have been, my vacation with William, I had to apply for a new one and set aside money for myself to move in with him.

'But as soon as I saw him at the airport I dropped my luggage and ran, I was so excited and overwhelmed to finally meet face to face.

'He made me feel like I was at home immediately and it's been great ever since, a few months ago he asked me to be his wife, I couldn't ask for a better man as a husband.

Can Aisha Buhari Be Compared to Grace Mugabe? Checkout What APC’s Onwuneme Has to Say

Engr. Nwabueze Onwuneme, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia State, has attacked a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri over an article credited to him in a national daily, where he tried to draw similarities between the wife of ousted Zimbabwe President, Grace Mugabe and Mrs. Aisha Buhari, saying Omokiri got it wrong as there is way to compare the two.

According to Onwuneme, the comparism clearly portrays Omokiri as “a confused man suffering from memory loss”.

Vanguard reports that Onwuneme in a statement in Umuahia, urged Omokri to “be more innovative in his desperate efforts to keep his job rather than compounding it and bringing more troubles and ridicule to his boss’s wife who presently has several money laundering charges hanging on her neck”.

He said Omokri’s failed bid to draw similarities between Mrs. Grace Mugabe and Mrs. Aisha Buhari on interference and undue influence in governance vividly reminded Nigerians of “an inglorious era they don’t want to remember.

“This was an era that witnessed Dame Patience Jonathan [allegedly] broke protocols during by several state visits where she usually disembarks from the aircraft first before her husband, the President, exchanging pleasantries before him.

He also reminded Omokri of how in her “show of power stoked the fire that is still burning in Rivers state where she publicly snatched the microphone from the then Governor of Rivers state, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi in public glare”.

Onwuneme also alleged that the former first lady threatened to deal with Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal, then the Speaker of the House of Representatives for trying to bring down his husband’s government down, saying that Mrs. Buhari is too decent to be compared in any way with the former first lady of Zimbabwe.

“Though I am not holding brief for Mrs. Buhari, but Nigerians can attest to the fact that since the advent of her husband, President Buhari’s Government, she has carried herself with utmost humility and decorum devoid of the traits or claims made by Omokri in the said article”, Onwuneme said.

‘My name is Kunle Remi and not Adesua’s ex’ Nollywood actor reacts to reports claiming he was once Mrs Wellington’s boyfriend

Kunle took to his IG page this morning to shut down rumors that he is an ex-boyfriend of actress and singer, Banky W’s wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington. Since Banky and Adesua announced their engagement and also began their wedding proceedings, social media has been agog with reports that Kunle was once Adesua’s boyfriend. Some of the reports claimed he lost out on her to BankyW.

In a post shared on his IG page, Kunle wondered where himself or Adesua ever confirmed to anyone that they were an item. According to him, they only acted as a couple in a movie they starred in. Read what he wrote below

Silence,they say is Golden.
I have been silent, but some people have taken this as an invitation to take the piss!! I have chosen my words and thought this action through, so read carefully, yes, pay attention I will only say this once.
I am not a bitter person neither am I a sadist.
‘If’ you know me, (if you don’t, ask about me from those that do) you would know I am a very positive and I radiate good vibes only, I am not here for any form of negativity whatsoever.
My name has been used inappropriately, and it is time I set the record straight.
I intentionally waited till after the festive of the beautiful wedding ceremony had come to a natural halt out of respect for the couple.
I have not till this present day said to any blogger, or mentioned on any social media platform, or granted any interview admitting or confirming that I was ever in a relationship with the former Miss Adesua Etomi who as well all know tied the knot over the past weekend, neither do I recall her doing the same.
Yet some jobless people cooked up stories and sold it to other jobless people and then jobless readers and commentators believed it and hence the rumors started circulating with no proof other than pictures of us on a Movie set titled (FALLING. A great film by the way, It’s on Netflix if you haven’t seen it.). Contrary to the opinion of people who feel theirs matters, I don’t have to congratulate the beautiful couple publicly to prove anything. Some of us would rather do our things privately. You CAN’T believe all you see on social media (some people will still not understand).
Take for example ; Recently I posted a picture of my Beautiful Nephew on my Instagram and as expected, rumors started again without any confirmation that I have a baby. (Quote me) I never confirmed to anyone that he is My Son. So there you go!!. Not all you see or read on social media is the gospel truth.
Having said that this is my advice to those this may concern; Just for your sanity try to be sure about the rumors and gist before you tongue lash people or judge people.
Sometimes Not every one is strong enough to handle it.

If you don’t know anything or if you are not sure, you don’t have to comment or curse people just SHUT UP. “If You don’t talk (in cases like this) you won’t die”.
Don’t Curse yourself.

Thank you for reading.
PS : Next Time you want to talk about me or refer to me. My Name is KUNLE REMI, the charming, charismatic , God Fearing, hardworking , Gentlemen but you can just call me THE ACTOR!! Signed

Rohr opens World Cup door to Obafemi Martins

Obafemi Martins could have a chance to play at another World Cup if he maintains his scoring form, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has told KweséESPN.

The 33-year-old, who plays in China for Shanghai Shenhua, has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances. His goal on Sunday led his team to the Chinese FA Cup title.

Martins also boasts a respectable goalscoring record at international level, netting 18 in 41 appearances, but has only played for the Super Eagles four times since 2010, with his last two appearances coming in 2015, despite impressive showings with Seattle Sounders in the MLS and now Shanghai Shenhua.

However, Rohr says he is willing to chat to the Martins to increase his options up-front.

“Yes, the door is open to all our best players, including Martins. He is scoring a lot of goals and we need to get competition for all the positions, especially centre-forward.

“For now, we have Kelechi (Iheanacho) who is playing not all the time. (But) we played with Kelechi against Argentina and he did well.

“Then Anthony Nwakaeme also did well against Algeria and Odion Ighalo, who is injured now, did very well against Cameroon. But we have also other players, like the young boy Victor Osimhen, and we have to look everywhere.

“We have a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and so Martins, if he is scoring goals, will be welcome.”

Eid-El-Maulud: FG declares Friday public holiday

The federal government has declared Friday as public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Muslim Eid-El-Maulud celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government, according to a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji.

It quoted Dambazau as calling on all all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion to pray for peace, progress and unity of the nation.

He further urged all Nigerians to support the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in its efforts at building a virile nation, while wishing them a happy Eid-El-Maulud celebration.

Eid-El-Maulud is celebrated every year by Muslims on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Atiku’s resignation from APC shows Buhari has failed – PDP chieftain, Dare Bejide

A former Nigerian envoy to Canada, Dare Bejide, has noted that the resignation of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, shows president Muhammadu Buhari’s poor performance in office.

According to him, it was a signal that President Buhari has disappointed Nigerians.

Bejide, who is also a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, said, losing a politician of Atiku’s clout was dangerous for the APC as it would help the PDP to regain power at the centre in 2019.

The former envoy however, predicted doom for the PDP if the Southwest is prevented from becoming its National Chairman.

He said these on Wednesday during a meeting with some party members in Ikere Ekiti local government ahead of the 2018 governorship election.

He said, “For a politician of Atiku’s standing to have defected shows President Buhari’s poor performances in government. It confirms the APC is not the best for Nigeria and his coming is a good development for our party.

“It is only logical to make someone from the Southwest the National Chairman. Since the formation of the PDP in 1998, nobody from that zone has been elected into that position and this is the right time and opportunity to correct that neglect.

“Vice President Prof Yemi Osibajo is from the Southwest, the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is from the zone and the party controls five states out of six, so it will be suicidal for the PDP to neglect the region in its political calculations.

“Let me say this clearly, if the party takes the position to the South South, it means they are saying they don’t need the votes of that region and the implications will be dire for the PDP.”

Teacher arrested for assaulting children at Kindergarten

A teacher, has been arrested by Police officers at a Beijing kindergarten,a woman who was blamed for spreading rumours about the case, have also been detained, this was confirmed by the state media on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old female teacher allegedly used sewing needles to discipline children who would not sleep, Xinhua news agency said.

Reports last week of children being sexually molested, pierced with needles and given unidentified medicine at RYB Education New World Kindergarten caused a national outrage, but some of the claims turned out to be untrue.

The investigation was complicated by the absence of CCTV footage.

Footage of the class where children were allegedly pierced with needles had been damaged due to frequent power outages, Xinhua said.

Investigators said an employee in the surveillance room was annoyed by the noise made by the monitor and would frequently cut electricity after school.

Police said they had found no evidence of s*xual abuse, and a woman was detained on suspicion of spreading rumours that children were being molested.

Another woman received a police warning for the same reason.

A parent who last week told state media his child had reported being fed two unidentified pills every day after lunch later said he had instructed his child to tell the made-up story, according to Xinhua.

Another parent who had claimed that unclad male doctors had given her daughter a check-up later admitted to have fabricated the story.

In response to this case, the government has ordered a nationwide inspection of kindergartens.

Investigation into this case is ongoing.

Beijing-based RYB Education operates more than 1,300 day care centres and about 500 kindergartens across China and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Ogboni fraternity after my life – Pastor Okoh cries out

A Lagos-based pastor and leader of Kingdom Fire Ministry International, Chukwudi Okoh, has called on the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate a threat letter purportedly written to him by some people who claimed to be members of the Ogboni Fraternity.

In an interview with Punch on Tuesday, Okoh said he had gone to his church auditorium in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State on November 7 for a meeting with other church leaders when he saw the letter which he thought was a prayer request.

On opening the letter, the 52-year-old Ebonyi State indigene said he discovered that it was a threat to his life over his involvement in the destruction of traditional shrines and conversion of some idol worshippers to Christianity.

The letter was reportedly signed by two unnamed persons who claimed to be ‘Secretary’ and ‘Akpino Grandmaster’ of the sect in the western headquarters of the group based in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The letter, dated November 3, reads, “Dear Chukwudi Okoh; We the Aborigine Fraternity of Nigeria also known as Ogboni fraternity hereby warn you against character assassination. You are warned to desist from destroying our religion in the name of your confession; turning our members away from our ancestral traditional way of worship. We have sent out men to warn you on several occasions, but you (refused to) adhere to our warning.

“We have many reports against you (on) how you destroyed our temple and burnt our materials of worship (malicious damage) in Ogun, Kwara, Cross River states. All these reports will be used against you unless (you) leave us and our members alone. This is the last warning to you, or else you will run out of Nigeria. We know your house and your church; there will be no hiding place for you.”

Pastor Okoh, who is also a father of five children, said he believed some people were out to destroy him.

He said, “I went to church that day for a meeting when I saw the letter on the altar. I was with three of my subordinate pastors. I thought it was a prayer request and when I opened it, I saw it was a threat letter. I reported it to the PFN chairman and we prayed together over it. I also reported it to CAN.

“This is not the first time I will be getting such a threat. Sometime in September, a motorist waylaid me on the road with his car. He said I was disturbing his group and I should stop or else they would come for me. He then quickly drove off.”

The cleric, who added that he had reported the case at the Okokomaiko Police Station, recalled destroying some shrines on the invitation of people who converted into the Christian faith during some of his evangelical outreaches.

He said, “I am a full time pastor and I have been in ministry for over 24 years. I have built churches in four different parts of Lagos, but they were demolished by the government. My present church location is our fifth and hopefully last building.

“I organise crusades with medical treatments for my host communities. There are times people confess to belonging to Ogboni Fraternity and they bring their materials and books for burning. I have done this many times in different parts of the country.

“There was a former Ogboni member that I converted. I can’t say I have any regrets because such is part of my calling,” he added.

Confirming Okoh’s claims, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said investigations were ongoing.

He said, “We are working to get to the roots of the threat. We believe that with the security put in place by the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, the people do not have the capacity to carry out any threat. Attempts by any group to attack a place of worship will be resisted.

“The CP, however, warns religious leaders to avoid hate speeches that may injure the feelings of other religious leaders which can lead to situations like this.”

25 million jobs to be created by African Development Bank

The President, African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has launched the Presidential Youth Advisory Group, an initiative that will create 25 million jobs.

The initiative was lunched vlaunched on the sidelines of the 6th EU-Africa Business Forum in Abidjan, would provide insights and innovative solutions for job creation for Africa’s youth as outlined in the Bank’s Jobs for Youth in Africa Strategy.

The jobs for Youth in Africa initiative aims to benefit 50 million youth over the next 10 years by equipping them with the right skills to get decent and meaningful jobs.

“It is currently the largest effort going on for youth employment in Africa.

“This is a huge opportunity for Africa. If we fix the youth unemployment challenge, Africa will gain 10-20% annual growth.

“That means Africa’s GDP will grow by $500 bn per year for the next 30 years.’’

He said Africa’s per capita income would rise by 55 per cent every year to the year 2050.

Adesina, who identified Africa’s greatest asset as its youth, observed that out of the 13 million youths that enter the labour market each year, only 3 million (about 33% of African youth) are in wage employment.

The rest, he said were underemployed or in vulnerable employment.

“The annual gap of more than 8 million jobs is going to worsen, with the number of youth expected to double to more than 800 million in the next decades.

“Africa has an unemployment crisis among its youth,” he stressed.

He noted that unless employment opportunities are created for them, Africa’s rapidly growing population of youths can give rise to serious social, economic, political and security challenges.

Africa’s youths, though strong and dynamic, cross the desert or the Mediterranean Sea because they do not find decent jobs in Africa.

“Graduates are wandering in the streets, jobless. The low level of employment opportunities is also fueling violence and extremism in Africa.

“Forty per cent of African youths engaged in armed violence join gangs or terrorist groups because of limited opportunities in their countries,” Adesina said.

“Sixty-six million African youths earn less than $2 a day, less than the price of a hamburger,” the Bank President emphasized.

National Assembly kicks out 2018 Budget proposal

The National Assembly have kicked against the Federal Government’s 2018 budget proposal, saying its assumptions are unrealistic.

The Senate and the House of Representatives, which began debates on the 2018 Appropriations Bill on Tuesday, were disgruntled at the Federal Government for not implementing the 2017 budget.

For instance, the Senate said the capital component of the 2017 budget had not been implemented up to 20 per cent.

The upper chamber also urged the Federal Government to sell or scrap agencies such as the National Orientation Agency, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria and the Nigerian Television Authority.

It said the government had been spending money on the agencies, which had not been adding any value to the country.

The debate started on a dramatic note when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe dismissed the 2018 budget proposal as being “fictitious.”

The Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, however, raised a point of order and faulted Abaribe for describing the bill presented by President Muhammadu Buhari as fictitious. Lawan urged the lawmaker to withdraw the word “fictitious” and use another word that was “parliamentary and acceptable.”

Withdrawing the word, Abaribe insisted on his position, saying, “I am just quoting the Senate Leader from his speech, in which he said the 2018 budget was designed to consolidate on the achievements of the 2016 and 2017 budgets. What was done in 2017 when less than 15 per cent of that budget was released? Nothing was done and that was why I called it (the 2018 budget proposal) fictitious. I am very sorry if that is the word he is bothered about. I will withdraw the word ‘fictitious’ and use ‘totally imaginary’.

“In what sense will this 2018 budget be predicated on assumptions that have already been destroyed? You are assuming N11tn, yet you are getting less than N1tn. How does that happen? That is why I said, with all due respect to my colleagues, that it is imaginary.

“I am saying that rather than continuing to debate this (budget) that has no basis in reality, we may just continue to beg this government to please be specific in the indications the assumptions underlying this budget. The assumptions are totally wrong, totally off the mark, and, therefore, the 2018 budget is already dead on arrival.”
