"The Only Person That Can Call Himself A Legend Is 2face" – Timaya

Nigerian singer, Timaya, who turned up for a radio interview with SoundCity FM, stated that only 2face can call himself a legend in the Nigerian music industry.

Timaya who disclosed that he doesn’t like being called a legend, said that some Nigerian singers address themselves as legends after being in the industry for 10 years.

“In this part of the world, many artistes when they get to 10 years, they start shouting ‘I’m a legend’, ‘legendary’. To me, in this industry, the only person that can call himself a legend is 2face. The others shouldn’t. Even if people call me a legend, I don’t like to be seen like that.”

The singer who also maintained that he is still the king of commercial music, added in the interview;
“The crown never leaves. I am Timaya anytime any day, 13 years is not three years. People don’t understand that making a hit song doesn’t mean you are a star. Stars always shine, some people can make a hit song and you will never hear of them again. There’s no year I’ve never dropped a hit song. I don’t want to be number one. I just want to be a musician. A lot of people have come and gone but I’m still here.”

Also revealing his stand on marriage, Timaya said;

“I don’t really go for weddings like that. I like the private marriage. If I want to get married, I will not do a big gathering. One thing is to get married, the other thing is to stay married. Staying married is the hardest part. Do you know what it means for two people with different upbringings to come and start staying together? That’s not a joke.”

Earlier, some middle-aged men and an elderly woman who came with Permanent Voter Cards from another unit, had attempted to cast their votes but were disallowed by vigilant security and party agents.

Read Why Obasanjo’s Son Endorsed Buhari Despite Father’s Rejection

Olujonwo, an estranged son of President Olusegun Obasanjo, has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari despite his father’s well-known disapproval for the second term bid of the president.

Olujonwo made his reasons for the endorsement known in a statement published by Vanguard.

In the statement, Olujonwo said that since nobody could be perfect, Buhari’s government has shown more than average commitment to the plight of the masses.

He therefore urged Nigerians especially the youths to vote massively for the return of the administration to power in 2019.

Recall that Obasanjo had in January 2018 written a popular 13-page letter in which he charged Buhari not to seek reelection because his government had failed.

Olujonwo’s statement read, “The current administration has begun the process of laying a solid foundation for future generations. They have deliberated and contemplated extensively on our myriad of issues and complexity as a nation to proffer deeply rooted plans and polices to tackle and establish a strong base on which to build and consolidate upon.

“It is also important to note that this process is not without pains but we should consider where we were, where we are and where we are going. The current adminsittraion has given hope to the common man; it is the dawn of a new age.

“I would humbly and strongly appeal that we all embrace and support Buhari’s government in his aggressive, relentless pursuit of equitable distribution of wealth and resources to the masses to aid the growth and development of our nation. He is seriously improving and empowering local farmers, industrialists, the women, the SME and businessmen.”

“The government is serious about development and has given new life to the steel industry and the Buhari Administraiton is determined to industrialise our nation and to make us a producing nation and the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and completion of the baro and Lokoja ports are examples.

“The current administration has sought to address our importation of petroleum products through the relocation of refineries. These are few examples, a whole book is needed to put the achievement and successes of the current administration into details. The current administration has invested more in education, health, agriculture, security, road infrastructural development to aid the growth of the economy despite receiving less revenue.

“The ingenuity of the current administration in proffering solutions is highly commendable. No human is perfect, no government is perfect, only the Creator of heaven and earth embodies perfection. We are on the right path and should not deviate.

“The youths of our great nation should join hands and support the progress and giant strides of President Buhari, he is working commendably to free us from past bondage and captivity.

“We are on the right path but we must not go back into bondage again.

“I am calling on the youths of our nation to let us work together to return President Buhari to power in 2019.”

ASUU to join indefinite Strike by NLC

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has indicated that it will most likely join the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the ongoing industrial action.

This was disclosed by the Owerri Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof Uzo Onyebinama during a press conference at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

The ASUU stalwart during the conference denied the rumours that the total strike declared by the labour Union was not being sponsored by the opposition parties.

He also disclosed that ASUU was most likely to join in the strike as a result of the Federal Government’s inability to fulfill the 2009 agreement with the union on the welfare of its members.

Excerpts from the statement read;

“You will recall that the 2009 FGN —ASUU Agreement made provision for the re-negotiation of the Agreement every three (3) years.

Consequently, the first renegotiation of the Agreement should have been in 2012. This was not to be. The first renegotiation of the Agreement commenced in March 2017.

As we speak now, the renegotiation exercise has broken down since May 2018 (after 14months), due largely to the deliberate tactics adopted by the leader of the Government Team, Dr. Wale Babalakin, to scuttle the renegotiation, by jettisoning the principle of collective bargaining and the gains of previous agreements, memorandum of understanding and memorandum of action.

In addition, the government team insisted that education ought to be funded from ‘diverse sources’ and consequently proposed the establishment of an Education Bank and a Students’ Loan Scheme.”

ASUU further urged the Federal Government to provide a platform for engagement between the leadership of the union and state governors on issues of proliferation of universities, underfunding of state universities, undue interference in the administration of state universities, as well as the non-implementation of various components of the 2009 Agreement in most state universities.

Suicide Attempt: Police Arraign Man For Climbing Telecom Mast In Abuja

The Police on Wednesday arraigned Iliyasu Lawal, 28, Nura Iliyasu, 29, and Idris Suleiman 28, in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court FCT for allegedly trespassing the premises of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trio, who are residents of Kaduna State, were accused of attempts to commit suicide inside the presidential villa.

Mr Augustine Urom, the Prosecuting Counsel, had averred that Lawal, on September 12 allegedly climbed an MTN telecommunication mast within the presidential villa to commit suicide while the others watched.

Urom further told the court that the Department of State Service (DSS) had transferred the defendants to the FCT Police Command on Sept.18.

He further averred that the defendants allegedly invaded the Aso Rock Villa with various protestation placards capable of making the public to revolt against the Federal Government.

Urom said the First Information Report (FIR) had alleged that the display of the defendants was capable of igniting uprising against a Constituted authority.

The prosecutor claimed the offences contravened Sections 79, 348, 114, 113 and 231 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the five-count charges of joint act, criminal trespass, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and attempt to commit suicide levelled against them.

Mr Uche Uwazuruonye, Counsel to Lawal and Suleiman thereafter filed an oral application seeking the court to admit his clients to bail.

Uwazuruonye, said the alleged offences were bailable, adding that his clients would always be available to stand justice.

“I assure the court that the defendants would not jump bail if admitted,’’ he said.

Similarly, Mr Dim Udebuani, Counsel to the second defendant, Iliyasu prayed the court to also grant his client bail, saying this will provide for him required right atmosphere to prepare his defence.

The Magistrate, Mr Muhammad Abdulmumini went ahead to admit the three defendants to bail in the sum of N250, 000 and a surety respectively.

Abdulmumini said the sureties must be from a Grade Level Seven Officer and above in the Federal Civil Service within the jurisdiction of the court.
