Sanwo-Olu Appeals To Protesters To Take Break As He Meets Buhari

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to Lagosians to take a break from the ongoing protest against the extrajudicial killings by certain officials of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Sanwo-Olu was speaking at the Lekki Tollgate axis this morning where the protesters had gathered as early as 4am.

He urged the protesters to remain peaceful and calm even as they demonstrate their civic rights but that the protest activities should be suspended for 24hrs.

He said: "I want to appeal to the protesters to take a break from protesting tomorrow. Tempers are at the highest on all sides at this time and while we work to prevent escalation, the safety of our residents is paramount. I speak not just as a governor, but as a father, brother and son.

"The safety of everyone involved in peaceful protests across Lagos is important and communicating with the Commissioner of Police, this is what we want to guarantee on all sides. Tomorrow, I will be meeting with the President.

"I am meeting with the Lagos CP.  Protesters will be released and broader issues will be addressed in my meeting with the President tomorrow. Let us take a break from protests tomorrow and give us a chance to take tangible next steps."
